Why I picked a fight with a Hillraiser and suggestion for Markos
Fri Nov 23, 2007 at 07:57:26 AM PDT
There have been many posts about whether or not the campaigns are using bloggs to campaign and start narratives that they otherwise wouldn't want to do in public. There is an assumed anonymous nature of the net, but as we know if you don't cover your tracks it doesn't take long to find out who you really are, if you are someone.
The following is calling out a poster because she is a official Hillraiser. It is not my site and I don't make the rules but I do believe in disclosure.
If I a wrong, kick me off. I left the name out but other people with google could figure it out.
Environmental Econ101 -It is Generational Damn It
Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 07:48:34 AM PDT
The other day I said Hillary's environmental plan is bogus. I found it to be especially disingenuous and pandering. In the multipage plan she used "Green" 44 times and "Conservation" 1 time, "Conserve" zero. Nobody reads my posts but if you want to it is here
Before anyone says, yeah but what about Obama, what about Edwards, it is better.....They all suck because they are dishonest.
In my view Obama is the most honest and while talking more about social issues than environmental, Obama is correct this is a Generational Problem.
Before anyone says, "I am tired of the Boomer-bashing," get over yourself. It is not about boomers, it is about your parents and their parents and their parents and an economic system that discounts the lives of future generations. Keep reading if want the simple truth.
Blogging for Truth Before There Were Blogs
Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 08:01:43 AM PDT
I started writing/blogging on the Motley Fool in 1998.
Here was my first post on the internet.
Hello all, I have been lurking for a little while and enjoyed much of your banter. I am a Econ PHD dropout hence the name. I quit because I came to the conclusion that econ theory is arcane especially when it comes to investing. The psychology of idiots is what should be studied in today's market. My professional econ/psych opinion is everyone is nuts and my approach is squirreling away as much in natural resource stocks at depressed prices during this slow down and wait for the markets next cold spell.
I hope I can add something to the discussion.
A few days later my comment on Gore and International relations.
More truth after jumping.
Semi-objective view of Clinton Nostalgia
Sat Nov 03, 2007 at 09:17:14 AM PDT
I have grown incredibly frustrated with the Orwellian nature of our country. The latest Hillary Clinton smackdown showing her Orwellian roots of saying something, being told she said it, then saying she didn't say it is much needed in my opinion. Bill Clinton was good at this as well which led him to perjury charges.
Of course no one or administration has been as destructively Orwellian as George W. Bush and we can all agree that he is the worst president and had done more damage than any other modern president, and maybe all presidents.
However, W being the worst president does not make Bill Clinton a good president. If Bill wasn't president, Hillary would not be where she is and if people realized that Bill was not only not a good president but not a good candidate, Hillary wouldn't have a shot at the nomination.
My view is that Hillary is nothing more than Orwellian spin. Below the fold more of the arguments and for the Hillary supporters and Bill apologists again, please argue the points and policies and keep you are a GOP lover or personal comments to a minimum. Thank you for your support.
Wake Up People -- Re: Gay Rights
Mon Oct 29, 2007 at 11:09:49 AM PDT
Simple fact:
In 2004 the anti gay marriage voters went 11 for 11 in state measures banning same sex marriage. The voting was 2-1 for bans.
Even in Oregon, the best chance for gay rights in the election, the ban received 57% of the vote.
20 million people voted on measures and in Mississippi 89% voted in favor of a ban.
I hate this reality, but it is the way it is, and people, you have to let this one go not just for Obama but for all democrats running.
I Have a Dream Rant
Thu Oct 18, 2007 at 07:56:18 AM PDT
Rant On Our Screwed Up Culture
Over the past years I have greatly reduced my ranting about societal woes that I cannot change and focus on improving society by improving the things I can change. Those things being my own behavior.
What are the things progressives worry about, and how do I work to fix them?
The Angry American - It's Bipartisan
Mon Oct 08, 2007 at 07:20:51 AM PDT
Over my years, a whole 38 of them, the question always arose as to how my family got into the positions it did. How did I end up where I did not want to be? How the problems on the micro or macro level never seem to get resolved and we repeat and repeat mistakes.
There was a time that I thought, maybe this might be the first generation that does not live through a major war. It was pretty clear after 9-11 that dream was out the window.
I studied multiple disciplines that examine human behavior. Western disciplines assume rationality and this faulty assumption shapes our societal views. Eastern disciplines assume delusion.
While this diary won't win any friends, Kossacks you are just as delusional as those you rant against, just the yin to their yang.
It is not Obama v. Hillary, not yet anyway
Fri Sep 28, 2007 at 08:46:05 AM PDT
This load of spin and pushing for a fight between Obama and Hillary by the media (lead by MSNBC) and the related narrative that Obama is not a fighter, doesn't want it, yada yada blah.....
Does not see the bigger picture. Yes, I am an Obama supporter but there is polling under the surface that points to the correct strategy to not fight with Hillary. I also think it is the righteous thing to do but lets focus on strategy and some interesting poll numbers.

Understanding the Monks of Burma - Update
Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 07:38:16 AM PDT
The reason I am writing this is that I am an American Buddhist. What the monks are going through is difficult and I practice for the end of suffering for them and all beings. It is all I can do and probably doesn't change anything, but it is what they would ask of me.
At the risk of speaking for them, I suspect they would be disheartened to think that people (like President Bush) would be willing to exploit their suffering for political gain.
I suggest that people follow them, instead of using them. What do I mean by that? The best I can do is to quote the late great Zen monk, Dainin Katagiri on how to act in the face of political emergency, in this case nuclear weapons. (from Returning to Silence)
The Ugly Truth V - The Healthy Get Healthier...
Wed Sep 26, 2007 at 07:16:31 AM PDT
The ill get sicker.
Just as the last decade has displayed the trickle up economy with income distributions widening along with increases in the number of families living in poverty, so goes the "health distribution."
As I stated in previous diaries, we treat money better than we treat our fellow citizens, and as it should be no surprise to anyone that policy follows the money. There has been a big push for Health Savings Accounts and "Consumer Driven" health care and while these have an appealing charm, remember to follow the money.
Below the fold are clips from a well reasoned article I recieved from MedScape, an excellent medical news feed.
Note: There was an online poll on MedScape 70% favor "some type" universal care.
The Ugly Truth IV - Illness is Not Random
Tue Sep 25, 2007 at 06:21:45 AM PDT
The fourth installment of this series continues to lay out why "insurance" is the wrong model. While I previously stated that the use of health care is a certainty not a risk, we all suffer from disease, old age and death, but how we get there and the cost is not random.
For the last 7 years, the CDC has been conducting a massive study it calls Adverse Childhood Experiences Study. It is in my opinion the most important study ever conducted on the cause of disease and health care utilization.
Yet few have ever heard of the study, much less the results. I again say this is because the truth is too ugly. We hear about the health crises, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, obesity....We hear about the new wonder drugs (often wondering how safe they are) and how they are the hope to save us all.
What we do not hear is the truth. The truth is that illness is not randomly distributed. Those that are raised in unhealthy and often violent homes bear the burden of chronic illness and early death, and as a society we all pay for it. Our health and health care crisis is a societal systemic problem that is reduced to trying to address the human and economic symptoms but not the causes.
The Ugly Truth III - Health Care is Our Greatest Threat
Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 07:09:06 AM PDT
People on the whole are pretty dismal at analyzing risk. In general people prioritize the "high impact low probability event" as something we must address with all available resources and consistently ignoring (or paying lip service) to the daily traumas of the high probability events.
Without going into a discussion of why, I am going to focus more on numbers. Basically, I think we are acting on this premise of fearing evil. The boogie man must be stopped theory. For example, there is a great deal of sensational press on "internet predators" when everyone knows the vast majority of sexual assaults are by family and friends. The ugly truth is so difficult to look at or confront that we ignore the systemic high probability event and reframe the threat to the low probability boogie man.
This then moves into the "Bad Actor Theory." Where there are systemic problems, we scapegoat the "Bad Actor," demonize them and delude ourselves to think we "Have the Greatest System in the World. We are America."
The ugly truth is that while modern medicine is and has made infinite contributions to humanity, the system itself is killing way too many of us.
The Ugly Truth II - Insurers Need Medicare
Fri Sep 21, 2007 at 06:20:00 AM PDT
The debate over Medicare is bogus. It is a systemic distraction of both policy and money. The fact is private health insurance companies are exactly where they want to be right now. They would not survive without medicare, but at the same time Medicare has to be painted as the boogie man; charity socialized care that is only good enough for the elderly.
This is a little diary to follow up on the Ugly Truth I, the main point of which is to present an entirely new frame that moves away from the bogus debate of "Medicare for All" or "Single Payer."
Understanding the Ugly Truth: Health Insurance
Wed Sep 19, 2007 at 08:01:22 AM PDT
The problem is that people do not understand the problem. People don’t understand the modern business model of health insurance corporations, even the "non-profit" (cough cough choke choke) ones.
As I am new, I will keep repeating I am an economist and health care provider. Strange combination but I studied micro-econ and game theory before I became a therapist. I live in Pittsburgh, and look up and see the Highmark sign every day. The first paragraph of a report on PA’s insurance system says a great deal.
http://www.pennpirg.org/...
Thirteen Pennsylvania not-for-profit organizations and trade unions and the national Consumers Union of the U.S., along with the City of Philadelphia,2 concerned about the impact on policyholders, the uninsured and the general public of the buildup of $4 billion of surplus on the balance sheets of the nonprofit Blue Cross Plans (the Plans), retained IMR Health Economics, LLC, to conduct an independent analysis of the applications filed with the Department in this proceeding

Voting by Psychological Evaluation
Mon Sep 10, 2007 at 08:16:34 AM PDT
First off, this is my first diary and probably won’t write many. To be honest I don’t really want to add much to what John Stewart has so accurately described as the Cluster@#$K to the Whitehouse. There is so much noise and manipulation and worst of all a perverse sense of tribalism.
A critique of a candidate or of their so called policies are often taken as a personal attack not on the candidate but rather the supporter. We become so closely linked that an attack on Hillary is a "personal" attack on a Hillary supporter (same goes for others but Hillary seems to be the most severe).
I am a loyal democrat and health care worker. I am also disgusted by the fact that I have lived my 38 years in a society so dominated by violence. I have treated way too many victims of violence and it takes its toll. Living in a near permanent state of PTSD, thinking I can’t hear anything worse than this story until for some karmic reason I meet the next person with an even worse story of suffering.
But you know what?!!! IT IS NOT ABOUT ME!!
This leads me to how I feel people should pick leaders. If it is clear that the candidate feels it is all about ME. Don’t give them a second thought accept to voice your dislike for their enormous sense of self.
