It’s Cyber Monday and I’m Losing My Shirt
Mon Nov 26, 2007 at 11:00:43 AM PDT
Today is the day big retailers like to call Cyber Monday in an effort to drum up sales. It seems to work, as they expect to record over $700 million worth of business. But not everyone will be included in this windfall.
Only 500 Days Left
Sat Sep 08, 2007 at 09:11:05 AM PDT
We're now just past noon on the east coast, so that means there are now only 500 days left until George W. Bush leaves office. Here’s a small sample of the events of his first 2422 days:
VA-Sen: AP says it's over!
Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 05:37:26 PM PDT
Just announced on Countdown with Keith Olbermann: The Associated Press is calling Virginia's Senate race for Jim Webb! Allen's spokesperson is already fighting the inevitable, saying (and I'm paraphrasing) they're still waiting for 7300 or so votes to fall out of the sky into Allen's column.
No story yet, just a link!

MD-Sen: Prince George's County Dems Endorse Steele
Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 04:00:28 PM PDT
Just reported tonight on
NBC 4 is the fact that six leading Prince George's County Democrats have endorsed Michael Steele. Former PG County executive Wayne Curry and five members of the county council have never really gotten over the fact that Kweisi Mfume lost the primary contest to Ben Cardin.
The announcement by the turncoat Dems included banners with the "Steele Democrat" logo featured in yesterday's MTP debate, furthering Steele's many attempts to confuse the electorate as to his true partisan identity.
Sour grapes, yes, but nevertheless, a major development that might have the chance to swing a big enough bloc of PG's many black Democratic voters to tip the election to Steele!
VA-Sen: Today I Asked James Webb To Run For Office
Thu Dec 01, 2005 at 07:39:27 PM PDT
I am a tour guide/limo driver in the Washington DC area and today I had the opportunity to drive author James Webb to Dulles Airport.
Before picking him up, I did a quick review of his résumé on his website JamesWebb.com, and to double check by photograph that it wasn't another James Webb that I was driving.
When he climbed in, I introduced myself by first name, and he returned the gesture with a friendly, "Hi, I'm Jim;" a good sign from the get-go. I can't tell you how many people who aren't nearly as accomplished as this man brush me off with a grunt or no acknowledgement at all.
After about ten seconds to gather my thoughts before launching what would turn into a terrific 30-minute conversation, I opened with, "So how are your book sales going?"
Need Link to Mark Warner's Why I'm A Democrat Speech
Fri Aug 05, 2005 at 01:41:03 PM PDT
I apologize for writing a diary for this purpose, but I need someone out there in Kos-land to give me a link to the full text of Gov. Warner's speech, Why I'm A Democrat. A number of entries on Google are now dead links.
I need this as a "shut your piehole" response to a co-worker who forwarded a list of what makes Republicans great, yadda, yadda, taken from an ad in the Washington Post by titanium baron George J. Esseff, Sr.
Should Dems Re-Draw IL and NM?
Tue Feb 22, 2005 at 08:32:34 AM PDT
An article in today's
Roll Call talks about contact made by Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (Md.) to "several Democratic governors" about a midterm re-drawing of congressional lines, a la Tom Delay's Texas plan. Click the link for more; however, it is a paid subscription site.
NY-Sen: Clinton vs..... Pirro?
Thu Jan 27, 2005 at 08:57:01 PM PDT
Looks like the NY GOP is getting desperate for a candidate to oppose Sen. Clinton next year. It's looking less and less likely that either Giuliani or Pataki is willing to throw himself under that bus, so they may be ready to turn to
Jeanine Pirro, Westchester County's Republican district attorney.
But as the article points out, she's not clean:
Pirro comes with some political baggage. Her husband, millionaire lawyer-lobbyist Albert Pirro, spent 11 months in prison after his conviction in 2000 on tax evasion charges. She was, for one day in 1986, the GOP's candidate for lieutenant governor. She quit that contest after her husband refused to disclose information about his financial dealings. She was an assistant district attorney at the time.
Also in the article is a statement by George "I've worn out my welcome" Pataki calling her one of the party's brightest stars. Sounds like the NY GOP needs help. </crocodile tears>
What's your Democratic Heritage?
Thu Jan 06, 2005 at 09:13:15 PM PDT
Delaware Dem's
diary about being loyal to the world's oldest political party finally has gotten me to write this diary that's been bouncing around in my head since after the election. While not everyone here self-identifies as Democrat, for those who do, I'm curious to hear about people's "Democratic Heritage."
As in, have you always been a Democrat? How many were like Kos and formerly were on the dark side with the Republicans? Do you come from a Democratic family? I was particularly intrigued by nancelot's comment regarding his/her grandmother, and was hoping to hear more of those kind of stories.
Also, to really spice things up, is there any one particular quality/trait/belief/etc. that you believe is (or should be) an intrinsic part of being a Democrat? As in, "Democrats are the party of the poor," or "Democrats support protecting the environment."
My Top Five For 2008
Thu Nov 18, 2004 at 07:51:46 PM PDT
This is a repost from my entry on
The Messenger's 2008 IRV Poll on 2008 Candidates. I know there's been a lot of these in the last two weeks, and I still hold out a little tiny bit of hope for Ohio's recount. That said, these are my top five choices for 2008:
