UnScience Friday in the Nation's Oldest City

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 01:01:54 PM PDT

UnScience Friday: the Elevation of Evolution
It is crimson here in st augustine. I am beginning to think that the nations' Oldest city, is also
one of the reddest ones. example is this lte this morning. i don't believe in censorship, usually but maybe Some people really should be denied pen and paper. How can someone live in this century, and flat out deny the reality of science? is beyond me.

Excuse me sir, Do you EAT? well most of the food you now eat is preserved, enhanced, etc by SCIENCE
Have you ever used any medication at any time in your life? HOPE NOT, cuz then you would be making use of that DEVIL SCIENCE Do you Drive a car? Do you use lights, stove, refridgerator, all created through engineering and SCIENCE

Earthquakes and Deep Drilling??? i have questions

Sun Sep 10, 2006 at 10:41:44 AM PDT

i was sitting at my pc a couple of hours ago, and thought i detected a faint rumble
under my feet. mmhhh... someone blasting in the neighborhood? tornado nearby?
Heavy heavy thunder in the distance? I asked the spouse, and he didn't notice anything
unusual. Was it just me? well the pet iguana actually had a strange look on her face. i
just went on with my day. CNN tuned in to listen to kerry/wolf, when they mentioned an
earthquake detected in the Gulf of Mexico about 250 east of tampa. I have lived most of
my 50 years in different parts of FL, and have NEVER felt even a slight tremor (ok, i have when
near shuttle or rocket liftoffs, but that was yesterday!!)
well, it got me thinking about the Gulf and recent DRILLING activity. You know, the DEEPEST
ever attempted in the gulf of mexico. and WHERE did the Drilling occur?

gwb is the Real Tarbaby?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 at 05:32:54 PM PDT

We have so much talent at DK. After reading the many recent diaries about
discrimination, allen, tarbaby. Tarbaby kept getting brighter in my mind. Who is the
Current tarbaby? Who does everyone WANT to distance themselves from before the Nov
elections? I think gwb fits the Bill. So my call is out to dood and the other
great creators. We Need Clips. It would be great if we could create a template
clip with all the characters and the extra special option of including your local
republican candidate.

Rah rah rass, kick em in the other knee

Carl Hiaasen is one of my heros. I was a lower keys resident for over a decade, and enjoyed his herald columns. Later i discovered a couple of books he wrote with another author. and then came his WONDERFUL novels with Skink and at least One Mutilated bad guy in each story. Read em. Laugh until you cry.

FBI Searches Cunningham's California Home

Fri Jul 01, 2005 at 04:46:14 PM PDT

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050701/ap_on_go_co/congressman_s_house

SAN DIEGO - Federal agents on Friday searched the California home of U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, along with the yacht in Washington, D.C., where he has been living, the FBI said.

Agents from the FBI, Internal Revenue Service and the Defense Department's criminal investigative service also searched the Washington offices of a defense firm whose founder bought the congressman's previous
home, leading to a federal investigation, said Debra Weierman, a Washington FBI spokeswoman.

Cunningham, 63, has said that he showed poor judgment in selling the house, but he acted honestly and predicted that an investigation would prove that.

The Closer:Interrogation101

Mon Jun 13, 2005 at 07:17:05 PM PDT

this evening was the premier of The CLoser" a show devoted
to the inner workings of an Interrogator, along the lines of CSI
and all the other new law and order shows. I missed it, but my
husband watched it and liked it. I just caught a trailer for it,
and it struck me that maybe this is a way of softening the public
to the techniques used in interrogations. Will they slowly add
"new techniques" with each episode, until they match those which we
currently consider to be torture and inhumane? Will they show it as
getting results (of course). Do they expect the public to become
inured to torture by adding it as a regular (sanitized) tv version.
Another step down that long road.
Shall we expect to see an SAIC or Blackwater ad during upcoming episodes?

<Bush Won't Take Backseat in Latvia Meeting>
RIGA, Latvia -     President Bush is used to taking center stage, even when sharing the dais with other presidents in their own countries.

That made for some awkward moments at a news conference Saturday with Bush and the leaders of three Baltic republics.

'''Republicans Protest Bush Cut to Anti-Drug Program'''

By Alan Elsner
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a rare show of discontent with the White House, 41 congressional Republicans have signed a letter protesting President Bush's plan to sharply cut spending on an anti-drug program.
The 41 House of Representatives Republicans joined 49 Democrats in signing the letter, given to Reuters on Friday, which asked top House budget writers to reject the cuts.
Bush's budget request to Congress in February proposed cutting funds for the High Density Drug Trafficking Area program to $100 million, from $228 million last year, and moving control from the White House drug czar's office to the Justice Department.

Tom DeLay Awards Badge Of Honor
DANIEL RUTH
Published: Mar 23, 2005

You had to know the Terri Schiavo kerfuffle was moving into the mother of all parallel universes when congressman Tom DeLay, who is so ethically challenged he makes Al Swearengen of ``Deadwood'' look like a Ramada Inn night clerk, started weighing in on morality.
It was the Bumpkin of the Brazos who suggested Michael Schiavo, who has been the guardian of his vegetative wife for 15 years, had abused Terri Schiavo.

``I don't have a lot of respect for a man who has treated a woman this way,'' preened the poster child for Ethics Committee investigations. ``What kind of man is he?''

666Billion:Proof that Bush is Antichrist

Wed Mar 16, 2005 at 01:32:47 PM PDT

I got a chill looking at this number...665.9
(can anyone say 666?)
the Mark of the Beast showing up as this Administrations' deficit
figure. This 665.9 is as close as you can get to the  "Mark of the Beast" without going over (ala The Price is Right)I think it is a fitting commentary of how this administration has gone against every Christian Principle, every Christian Doctrine, every Christian VALUE.
The Golden Rule is lost in the Labyrinth of this administration's doublespeak.
Propping up the wealthy and the Corporations has become the Not so Hidden agenda.

Taxbreaks for the Wealthy, Do away with assisting those truly in need.
Prop up the Airlines, Bankrupt Amtrak.
Cut Federal funding for over 100 programs which help those less fortunate.

Tort Reform/Malpractice Award Caps Debunked in Texas Reports

Thu Mar 10, 2005 at 01:07:58 PM PDT

Texas Study Casts Doubt on Need for Tort Reform
yahoo/reuters story

Thu Mar 10, 1:59 AM ET

HOUSTON (Reuters) - "A study released on Thursday cast doubt on whether recent "tort reform" in Texas that limited payouts in medical malpractice lawsuits and is similar to what President Bush (news - web sites) wants nationally was really needed.

The study looked at Texas Department of Insurance records dating back to 1988 and found claims that medical costs were soaring because of too many malpractice lawsuits, the supposed reason for the reform, were not true."

I posted a diary back in nov. in which the nations largest malpractice insurer, GE Medical Servicesfirmly stated that Lawsuits accounted for only about 1% of insurance cost increases. They also stated that caps on malpreactice
awards would have almost NO affect on rising costs.

caps don't work :says largest liability insurer

Tue Oct 26, 2004 at 05:06:10 PM PDT

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=38849
Once again this administration is caught in a mistruth. This time it concerns their claims that caps on medical liabillity are at the root of rising health care costs. This is a blatant Falsehood. Just today, the largest medical liability insurance provider in the country, GE Medical Services made clear in a statement to the Texas Department of Insurance, that the liability caps currently in place will not keep them from increasing the physician's premiums another 19%. According to the Medical Protective filing: "Non-economic damages are a small percentage of total losses paid. Capping non-economic damages will show loss savings of 1.0 percent." The company also notes that a provision in the Texas law allowing for periodic payments of awards would provide a savings of only 1.1 percent. The insurer did not even provide its doctors that relief and eventually imposed a rate hike on its physician policyholders.

U.S. arms deals elude required scrutiny

By Bruce Finley
Denver Post Staff Writer

Washington - The United States is failing to safeguard much of the highly sought weaponry it sends abroad - from assault rifles to sophisticated combat technology, a review by The Denver Post concludes.
...
When government officials do review arms deals, they find increasing problems - including diversions to at least one criminal and several hostile nations. Nearly one in five arms deals checked last year - 76 out of 413 - had such problems.
